This thesis is a study on He Jiguang’s vocal style characteristics from the perspective of "national presence". The study was done basing on He Jiguang vocal style analysis method, the use of music theory and analysis method, drawing the lessons learnt from history, political science, sociology, etc, with the historical background of the Chinese National Singing and Bel Canto disupute, which happened around 1940s-1960s.The dispute between Chinese National Singing and Bel Canto happened in the 20th century. It is a cultural contradiction of China’s international relations, class relations, ideological conflicts that appeared in the music culture. The conflict was eventually integrated into the framework of a specific sense -- "Chinese singing/China national vocal music. And its initiation and process is always guided by the policy of literature and art.He Jiguang (June 10,1939-September 2002 19) is one of the representative folk singer from the embryonic period of Chinese National vocal music. He created a new singing method and style by learning the basis of bel canto and them combined it to the original Chinese National Singing style and method. This singing method and style is influenced by its historical and cultural context, thus revealing its characteristics of that period of time.
