In recent years, the tones of Hmong come to arrest attention of the academia gradually. While the predecessors’ research achievements are given priority to the method of traditional study, the experimental research achievements on the Hmong tone are still rare. This paper firstly uses the method of modern experimental phonetics to study the tones of the Xiaoshuijing Hmong dialect. Xiaoshuijing Hmong dialect is A-Hmao language. It is the second dialect of West Hmongic. The foundation of this article is the mass data taken by means of phonetic experiments on the tones of Xiaoshuijing Hmong dialect. The paper discusses monosyllabic tone pattern of the Xiaoshuijing Hmong dialect, the influential factors of monosyllabic tone and the sandhi rule of the bi-syllable tone. The paper is divided into six parts. They are as follows:The introduction briefly describes the general research situation of the Hmong tones, the research purpose and significance of this study, and the overall design of the acoustic experiments on the tones of the Xiaoshuijing Hmong dialect. The first chapter is the monosyllabic tone experimental research of the Xiaoshuijing Hmong dialect. This chapter shows the distribution and the monosyllabic tone pattern of the Xiaoshuijing Hmong dialect by experimental analysis, and describes the situation of the tone value differentiation. The second chapter mainly discusses the influence power of voiceless consonant and voiced consonant to the monosyllabic tone of the Xiaoshuijing Hmong dialect. The third chapter is about two phonetic phenomena. They are voiceless consonant with turbidity and the voiced aspiration. This chapter uses the phonetic experiments to study the influence to the monosyllabic tone of two phonetic phenomena. The fourth chapter focus on whether gender, age have impact on the monosyllabic tone. The fifth chapter is the experiments about the sandhi rule of the bi-syllable tone.
