A Report On Translating Building Design And Construction Handbook From English Into Chinese

The spread of popular science means a lot to social development, while building design and construction is an important part of popular science. As people become more interested in popular science and environmental protection, English-Chinese translations of those two topics are becoming more and more important. The material of this thesis deals with building design and construction and is excerpted from building design and construction. The author in this excerpt mainly talked about the necessity of the building design and construction, which plays an essential part in people’s daily life. In the process of translation, the author takes advantage of online translation and refers to some relating dictionary and books. As to those questions in the process, the author puts up with some useful strategies. As to the issues of English-Chinese translations of popular science texts, the author uses various translation techniques in the base of Skopostheory,such as free translation, literal translation, conversion and so on so forth. Furthermore, the author summarizes the experience during the course of the translation and hopes to inspire future translators and propagate the knowledge of building design and construction.The main part of this issue is the case study, during which the author gives introduction in the aspect of word and sentence. And author adds client comment as an essential part of it to insure the objectivity. But the reality is cruel, so there are some unavoidable mistakes. The author will sum up them, and make continual progress.
