With the increasing development of the social economy, the demand ofpragmatic translation talents is expanding. Besides traditional literary translation,there are many kinds of pragmatic translations, such as contract translation, medicaltranslation, mechanical translation and so on. With a trend of economic globalization,many Chinese enterprises begin to cooperate with foreign enterprises, thus they needto sign contracts for cooperation, which increases the demand for contract translation.Many translators know that translating contracts well requires translators not only beproficient in English and Chinese, but also gain relevant professional knowledgeabout contracts and read relevant contract texts, which means contract translation isnot very easy for translators. Therefore, the writer thinks it is significant to write areport about contract translation practice. And this paper simply narrates thetranslation process, analyzes concretely the difficulties of English contracttranslation—legal terms and long sentences and the choices of the translation strategyand translation methods on the basis of Skopos theory and one of the writer’stranslation practices (to translate a construction contract with more than10000wordsfrom English to Chinese).In this translation practice, the writer adopts domesticationas the translation strategy and such translation methods as literal translation,translation of passive voice, translation of pronouns, addition and the change ofword order. Finally, the writer gives a summary of her translation practice with thehope of providing some references for translators and schoolmates.
