In recent years, with the development of corpus-based study, the accessibility of parallel corpora provides language learners and teachers with great opportunities in translation teaching and learning. In this thesis, the author tries to explore whether students can solve some practical translation problems at lexical level and syntactic level with the help of parallel corpora. The thesis mainly studies the application of parallel corpora in translation teaching. PACCEL (Parallel Corpus of Chinese EFL Learners) is used in the experiment and 80 sophomores are divided into two groups (the experimental group and the control group) from the Department of Computer Technology. The control group consisting of 40 students finishes the translation tasks with the help of traditional C-E dictionaries; the experimental group uses parallel corpora to finish the task. The experiment lasts about eight weeks. The students are required to translate some C-E exercises from 2015 College English Model Test Band 4. Then through comparison of translation versions between the experimental group and the control group, the author finds that students in the experimental group perform much better than the students in the control group in word and phrase translation as well as structure translation, even in the choice of voice and tense in translation practice. Therefore, it is concluded that in translation practice, the parallel corpora can help students to solve problems of equivalence, collocation and word stuffing, which is of great help for teachers to improve the quality of translations teaching.
