Research On E-C Translation Of Behavior Problems Treatments In Psychology

"The research reports of behavior problems treatment in psychology" consists of Enuresis and Encopresis, developmental Disabilities, Conduct problems:Aggression and Hyperactivitiy, Delinquency, Anxiety Disorders, Psychosexual Disorders, Marital Discord, Eating disorders, Alcoholism and Cigarette Smoking, Schizophrenia and so on. Written by some American behavioral psychologists in the last century, these reports are quite comprehensive in complication and detailed in description of behaviorism psychology. Each of the reports includes case description, definition and analysis from all aspects such as physiological, biochemical and pharmacological factors, social factors, treatment and prognosis. And it also contains clinical research and the evaluation of treatment outcome, clinical issues and strategies and ethical issues. As far as these features are concerned, it is a collection of psychology research reports, practical and applicable in nature.The complication, rigorous and precise, is of an EST style. It can provide us with new methods for and views on clinical practice in behaviorism psychology. And it is instructive for the development of behavior therapy. Important for psychology studies in China as it is, it is worthy of translation which is of significance both in theory and in practice in general and in translation in particular.Speaking from my experience, the translation of such reports must be done in the light of these factors. First, the translator needs a proper knowledge of psychology; second, the translator should pay due attention to the original style when representing the content of the source language; third, the translator must be familiar with both English and Chinese technical terms and properly handle well them in representation by any means such as annotation so that Chinese readers can understand and appreciate them.This thesis is a report on the translation of the series of psychology research reports covering both children’s psychological issues and adults’psychological problems. It is a summary of how and why the author translated these research reports. The whole paper is composed of six parts, all centering around such questions as the translation of technical terms, translation principles, translation strategies and techniques and the analysis of the problems in the translation process. It is hoped that the thesis can be of reference for the people who do translation of the same topic.
