On Translation Of Culture-loaded Words In Shanghanlun From Perspective Of Eco-translatology Theory

As one of the four great classics of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), Shanghanlun is hailed as "ancestor of prescription books" and plays an important role in Chinese medical history. Rooted in ancient Chinese philosophy, Shanghanlun is rich in culture-loaded words which carry both cultural and humanistic connotations. In terms of the translation of shanghanlun, the translation quality of culture-loaded words not only influences greatly the targeted readers’ understanding about TCM, but also affects the exchange and transmission of TCM across the whole world.Eco-translatology, which is on the basis of Darwin’s "adaptation and selection" theory, is an ecological approach for translation study. Eco-translatology theory holds that translation methods can be interpreted as "three dimensions transformation". In accordance to the principle of "multi-dimensions adaptation and adaptive selection", eco-translatology focuses much more on three dimensions:language, culture and communication. Eco-translatology theory provides a new perspective for translation study, and its relevant research is in full swing.This study comparatively analyzes the translation methods of two English translations of Shanghanlun from the perspective of "three dimensions transformation" theory, summarizes the translation strategies and methods of TCM culture-loaded words and shows that eco-translatology can be used as guidance to the research on TCM classics translation. Finally, translation strategies of culture-loaded words are put forward from the perspective of "three dimensions transformation" theory:sorting the three dimensions transformation according to culture density reasonably; selecting translation methods flexibly by weighing literature value and medical value; applying western medicine vocabulary and notes appropriately to achieve equivalent transformation of three dimensions.
