At the present time, Chinese is becoming more popular among Thai people. Currently, there are more than 10,000 Thais studying Chinese. More and more students in Thailand are coming into contact with, and loving, the Chinese language. Chinese has become an important tool for communication in Thailand. The purposes of this research study are 1) to develop the Chinese proficiency of Thai students 2) to improve students’ pronunciation of Mandarin Chinese. This research applies an experimental technique in pronunciation, together with a survey of errors and causes of the problem that Thai students have with the pronunciation of "Er" in Mandarin Chinese. This research covers differences between Thai and Chinese and analyzes the specific reasons for pronunciation errors of Thai students. Hopefully, this research will prove useful for teaching Chinese as a foreign language.
