| Within the theoretical framework of the Manipulation Theory of Andre Lefevere who was one of the representatives of the Manipulation School, this thesis intends to study the manipulation in Ren Rongrong’s all translations of children’ s literature from two perspectives. The first one is to analyze the three control factors’ s manipulation on the outer characteristics of Ren’ s all translations; the second one is the analysis of the poetics’ manipulation on translator’s practice, taking five pairs of the most popular target texts and source texts as examples. With the cultural turn in translation studies in 1970 s, the focus of translation study was gradually changed from the formal equivalence between the source text and target text to the factors that influence the the process of translation and to how those factors manipulate that process. As far as Andre Lefevere’ s concerned, translation is not to realize the meaning equivalence between the source text and target text, but to realize the compromise between the source cultural system and the target cultural system and the latter one plays the dominant role in the process of translation. In other words, when the literary works from foreign culture are translated and introduced into the target culture, this process will be manipulated by some factors in the target culture, including the manipulation of the poetics from the inner literary system and of the ideology and patronage from the outer literary system. Andre Lefevere’ s manipulation theory provides a new perspective for our’ s translation study. The current researches pay more attention to the translators who played a crucial role in the emergence and development of Chinese children ’s literature, so that theresearches about the translators of children’ s literature in contemporary age are not enough. In contemporary age, there is little people who is willing to throw all themselves into children’ s literature translation. However, Ren Rongrong is a famous translator of children’ s literature who devoted himself into the children’ s literature translation from the year of 1946 till now. And he can be the representative of the translators of children’ s literature in contemporary age to some extent. Therefore, the research of the translation practice of Ren is a representative, convincing and comprehensive study to the translators in contemporary age. Through the official website of NATIONAL LIBRARY OF CHINA·NATIONAL DIGITAL LIBRARY OF CHINA( http://www.nlc.gov.cn),the author obtains all Ren Rongrong’ s translations of children’ s literature and the related information, such as the countries that the works come from, the publication year and the publishing houses. In addition, the genres and themes of the works are also judged based on the information provided by this official website. According to those pieces of information, the author concludes the outer characteristics of Ren’ s translations of children’ s literature. What’ s more, the author makes a comparison between the five pairs of source texts and target texts, which are the most popular works among readers. Based on the result of the comparison, the author concludes the inner characteristics. Considering Andre Lefevere’ s Manipulation Theory as the macro theoretical framework, and the historical background, the views on children’ s literature and the views on children during the two different periods of Ren’ s translation practice as the micro framework, the author analyzes and demonstrates the manipulation on Ren’ s translation practice.Based on Andre Lefevere’ s Manipulation Theory, the author makes a comprehensive and systematic analysis of Ren’ s all translations and demonstrates the influence of the three control factors of the Manipulation Theory on Ren’ s translation practice, which makes a little contribution to the research about the translators of children’ s literature in contemporary age. |
