Research On The Plastic Arts Of Xiaoyi Puppet In Shanxi

At present, there are lots of monographs which is about Xiaoyi puppet shows. The contents of those monographs include the puppet shows and its stagecraft, such as music for voice in puppet shows, musical instruments, the lists of puppet shows and theater arts. However, there are a little studies about the puppet itself. The wood has been carved into the shape of a person. Meanwhile, as the support in the puppet shows, the puppets play an important role in the art. But some scholars have just described the process, themes, skills in the puppet shows. They haven’t studied the puppets themselves in depth.On the stage, the initial vision is puppets, and the element of puppet can make the shows perfect.In this paper, the writer investigated the traditional puppets from the angle of the techniques of sculpture in wood,including the head of the puppets, the clothes and the stages.The paper reveal that its origin and form, and also mention some new characteristics of Xiaoyi puppets. These characteristics are influenced by new materials and modern skills. The whole paper is based on the field investigation and is combined with literature investigation, image analysis and other research methods to collect a large number of books, pictures and substances to arrange, analyse, compare and summarize.The paper convey that the head of traditional puppets in Xiaoyi, the clothes and the stage of the puppets was influenced by the historical background and the Jin drama(a special drama in Shanxi province).Therefore, the traditional Xiaoyi puppets are full of regional features. Impacted by the market, many intangible cultural heritages are gradually withdraw from the historical stage. And they are even in danger of extinction.Xiaoyi puppets can not develop alone or stand aloof. According too the limitation of Xiaoyi puppets, the writer give some advices that are developing private markets, cultivating outstanding works, giving full value to the high-quality puppets, combining the tourism products to make the heritage and development of Xiaoyi puppets come true.
