In contemporary painting art, different types and different styles of paintings reflect the large scale features of "polyphonic".This thesis focuses on discussion and research of the contemporary polyphony painting, which appeared after the area of Abstract Expressionist.Art critic Clement Greenberg was inspired by some commentaries come from the music critics, then did the relevant descriptions and analysis of concepts and finally put forward "polyphonic" painting in his book "Art and Culture". Since the second half of the 19 th century, the evolution that Impressionism genre continuously formalized to painting language, appeared in the relationship came from the context of art history, can be regarded as a painting language in the early twilight state of "polyphonic". Painting language detached from abstract objectives with new Impressionism of Kandinsky’s "hot abstract" and Mondrian’s "cold abstraction". Then it comes to abstract expressionist painting period, many art works appeared with completely formalized and abstracted repeating of painting language. The features of "polyphonic" reflected in abstract painting language clearly. The repeat of abstracted symbols which contains points and lines becomes the only expression of the two-dimensional plane. In the era of industrialization after the Pop Art, the cartoon images, advertisements and daily necessities arise up with the utilization of visual resources generated from the consumer culture, just like a machine output products. All these daily images use the way of self-replicate and make " polyphonic " shown in the picture. It created a psychedelic visual effect with abstract symbols of visual illusion’s permutations and combinations of "polyphonic",which found in OP art. With the influence of Western cultural, Chinese contemporary painting also have a wide range application of "polyphonic" in different painting works.The first chapter of this thesis focuses on the origin, production and development changes of "polyphonic", combine the artist’s works with different styles of art history and background, It makes the concept of "polyphonic" more comprehensive and profound understanding.The second chapter, I will analysis the different presentation ways of "polyphonic", which use the method of abstraction and figuration symbols with the related definition, in the Contemporary painting language. Then, arrange and classify it for further understanding.The third chapter, I will parse the artistic features of "polyphonic" in Contemporary painting language, find some common aesthetic characteristics from it. And conclude common factors combined with different exposition of contemporary artists.The fourth chapter is my thoughts of "polyphonic" in Contemporary painting language. Firstly, the reasons for the appearance of "polyphonic". Secondly, the meditation of the significate meaning to contemporary paintings and arts due to the influence of “polyphonic”, as well as my reflections.At the end, I will summarize the whole thesis, and I hope to make a little bit contribution to rich the research content in "polyphonic" for Contemporary painting language in China.
