Critical discourse analysis focuses on revealing the power and ideology embedded in the discourse. Although different fields of news discourse such as political news have been discussed both at home and abroad, few business news discourse research about AIIB has been done. Therefore, this research is aimed at probing how the linguistic and non-linguistic factors influence the business news report to disclose the hidden ideology in the business news, and also to strengthen readers’ awareness of critical thinking. This paper built two small-size corpora, the target corpus with 30 pieces of business news reports about AIIB from Chinese media, and the reference corpus with 30 pieces of business news reports about AIIB from American media, and adopted such tools as Antconc, Claws and Chi-square test. Based on the Fairclough’s three-dimensional framework and Halliday’s systematic functional grammar, this paper analyzed three stages in these business news reports. The description stage included the discussion of the transitivity, lexical classification and mood and modality. The interpretation stage interpreted the parameters of reporting verbs and coherence. The explanation stage discussed the social factors. The thesis finds, in the description stage, that both the Chinese and American media use more material, relational and verbal processes at the transitivity system. As for the lexical classification, the Chinese media pay attention to the economic growth that AIIB can promote, while the American press put more emphasis that AIIB is the political tool to expand the Chinese political power in the world. There is no significant difference in the use of the modality. In the interpretation stage, the reporting verbs in the two different corpora are distinctive. Chinese media use more positive ones, but the American employ the negative ones. As to the coherence, there is little difference in the use of logical connectors, yet the connectors are imposed on different ideological assumptions. In the explanation stage, the social factors such as the cultural, political and economic factors have a great influence on the business reports. These research results have some implications for both the media and the readers. The Chinese media can use more linguistic strategies to make the news more persuasive. Both Chinese and American media reporters should always keep the neutral and objective attitudes to the event. Also, readers should be aware of the ideology embedded in the news reports and read the news in a critical way.
