Under the guidance of translation theory Catford’s Translation Shifts, this translation report, based on the translation practice of Medina Mayrit: The Original of Madrid, aims at conducting an analysis of typical translation phenomena and problems that occur in translating from English into Chinese. At the same time, this project is designed to summarize the translation strategies and specific skills in informative texts to improve the translation quality in future. The author also hopes that this translation report can make some contributions to the translation and research on historical and cultural articles, strengthening the communication between China and western countries and promoting mutual prosperity and development.The translation report consists of five parts. The first part gives a brief introduction to the whole translation task, including the task background, the choice of source text and its significance. The second part describes the translation process,including preparation, translation and proofreading stages. The third part is the brief introduction to theoretical framework. Catford’s Translation Shifts will be introduced with examples in this part. Then it comes to the main part of this translation report,namely case study, in which typical translation examples are chosen and analyzed to discuss the specific translation methods. The last part, Conclusion, is the summary of this translation report as well as limitations and implications.
