A Practical Report On The English-Chinese Translation Of Information Security:Foundations,Technologies And Applications Under Catford's Translation Shifts Theory

The translation practice explores the viability of J.C.Catford's translation shifts theory in the translation of the scientific and technical text.The development of information technology has put forward higher requirements for the English translation of information technology.The source text of the present translation practice is selected from chapter 7 and chapter 8 of the book,Information Security:Foundations,technologies and applications,which was published in 2018.The book is divided into two parts.The first part mainly introduces the theoretical basis of information security,and the second part mainly introduces the main technology and its application.This book belongs to scientific and technical text,which is characterized by concise language,rigorous logic and professional terms.When translating scientific and technical text,we should pay attention to the accuracy of words and expressions and give heed to the accurate transmission of meaning.According to the characteristics of scientific and technical text,Catford's translation shifts theory was chosen to guide this translation practice.Based on the equivalence of meaning,Catford's translation shifts theory proposes that translation should pay more attention to the communication of text meaning.Catford proposes two shifts:level shifts and category shifts.Under the guidance of this theory,translation methods such as shifts of part of speech,shifts of tense and aspect,shifts of singular and plural expressions are used to make the translation as consistent as possible and make the translation conforming to the reading habits of the target readers.It has been proved that this theory has strong practicability in guiding the translation shifts of words,phrases and sentences in the English texts of the information technology industry.
