The book, A Wanted Man, is one of the Jack Reacher series, which was written by British thriller writer Lee Child. This series of book has ranked first on the list of best-sellers all over the world as soon as published. He creates a mysterious atmosphere in this detective novel with exquisite techniques, which makes the readers feel personlly on the scene with the developing of the case.This translation practice report consists of translation practice and translation report. The translation practice refers to the translation of the first ten chapters of the book A Wanted Man. From the linguistic and contextual perspective and under the guidance of context theory, the translation report makes a discussion and analysis on the translation difficulties caused by the language and context in the novel. This translation report also analyses translation techniques including conversion, addition,inversion and condensation with examples.On the basis of the combination of translation theories and translation practice,the translator finds that context theory plays a positive role in the translation of detective fiction. A mastery of the method of contextual analysis by the translator can be quite helpful to improve the quality of the translation. In addition, on account of the differences in linguistic features and social backgrounds between English and Chinese, the translator shall take the cultural and social background of the text into consideration during the translation and pay special attention to the differences between the two cultures. Translation technique like addition shall be employed during the translation to provide a smoother translation. Although some translation techniques are mentioned in this report against the translation practice, there are still many problems waiting for further discussion.
