Overseas Dissemination Of Bai Juyi’s Poems

In the research area of Tang Poetry, the great poet Bai Juyi in the Mid-Tang period has been one of the hot study cases for scholars. There are numerous monographs and articles about his life overview, literary research, and poetry analysis, and related books are published one after another. However, the research on the overseas dissemination of his works is not enough. Literature cannot exist without communication and the diversity and effectiveness of communication promote the depth, variety in styles and growing prosperity of Chinese literature. It can be said that the overseas dissemination of Bai Juyi’s works is an important theoretical issue as well as a practical problem. Only researching the overseas dissemination of the works and putting it into a specific space network, the scientific and rational explanation on its formation, evolution and influence of the works in foreign countries can be concluded. This article takes the dissemination of his poetry in Japan and South Korea as the research objects. From the perspective of nature of Tang Poetry and cultural dissemination, it explores the ways of overseas dissemination as well as the significance of Tang Poetry in literature development of the two countries. In addition to the introduction and conclusion, this article has five chapters.Chapter one: the dissemination of parent linguistic context of Bai Juyi’s poetry. This chapter mainly explains the related facts, introduces the life of poet, his works and his position in Chinese literary history. It focuses on the communication and acceptance of Bai Juyi’s poetry in the main culture, laying the foundation for the introduction of the poetry’s communication in the East Asian cultural circle.Chapter Two: the dissemination of the poetry in Japan. From the macro level, it analyzes the dissemination in Japan, and then on the basis, discusses the reason and influence of poetry dissemination, and how it made the classical construction step by step. On this basis, it discusses the causes and impacts of his poetry’s spreading, and analyzes how Bai’s poetry in the multivariate literature system is popular in the translated language plus an effect on the development of local culture.Chapter Three: the dissemination of the poetry in South Korea. From the macro level, it analyzes the spreading in South Korea, and discusses the reason and influence of poetry dissemination, and how it made the classical construction gradually. Furthermore, it explores the South Korea’s processing technology to the translation of the poetry from the perspective of nature of Bai Juyi’s poetry. It also makes a research of the phenomenon of assimilation and alienation in the process of dissemination and states the influences on the literati and styles in South Korea from the micro and macro levels.Chapter Four: the contrast of overseas dissemination of the poetry in Japan and South Korea. This chapter makes a comprehensive contrast in the difference of the poetry in the two countries, finds out the reason that causes the difference, and summarizes the rules and enlightenment of overseas dissemination of Tang Poetry. It also discusses the possibilities to use these rules in today’s overseas communication.Chapter Five: the culture return of Bai Juyi’s poetry in global contexts. This chapter analyzes phenomenon on the overseas culture return of the poetry and its influence on the mother culture.
