With the advent of the new century, China’ s economic globalization is deepening. Exchange, collision and integration of diversified cultures have put the single value orientation before China’s adoption of the reform and opening up policy to test. Affected by that, Chinese moral concepts and ideology have undergone dramatic changes. In terms of socialist morality, the scientific and cultural qualities of some Chinese are not well matched with their moral qualities. Intellectuals with a high academic degree, party members and cadres holding power in national administrative organs, and civil servants are going through tough trials. In the face of moral choices, immoral cognition and behaviors are popping up.This paper thinks that these moral problems can seek solutions from the traditional morals of ancient Chinese scholars. Proceeding from the practical needs of modern ethic construction, the author studies traditional ideas about morals of ancient Chinese scholars, explores their moral traits, and extracts the reasonable part as profound cultural resources for construction of a moral system in line with development requirements in the new period of socialism and for socialist civic moral construction. If the reasonable part of traditional morals of ancient Chinese scholars can be closely combined with the contemporary development, dilemmas facing the ethics and morals construction and development can be resolved.“Scholars” were a class gradually developed as inheritors of traditional Chinese culture. Their ethical and moral pursuits played an important guiding role in the whole traditional Chinese society. Striking characteristics of morals of ancient Chinese scholars include devotion to the Way, emphasis on moral cultivation all the time, deep concern for the country and the people, and unity of knowing and doing during moral practices. Due to different political, economic and cultural conditions, morals of ancient Chinese scholars bore salient era characteristics. To summarize evolution of ancient Chinese scholars in different historical periods is to find out the internal development traces of morals of ancient Chinese scholars and the behavior patterns of the class. To reconstruct morals of ancient Chinese scholars in contemporary China should keep an eye for recognition crisis among diversified cultures. On the other hand, the historical limits of morals of ancient Chinese scholars and the deviation of their internal moral objectives from practical social situations should also be a great concern. The reconstruction standard is that the reasonable part of morals of ancient Chinese scholars should be able to be integrated into socialist moral construction and contribute to solution of practical problems during socialist moral construction. Based on the needs of the current socialist moral construction, and the positive part of morals of Chinese scholars, it is necessary to dig the value of morals of ancient Chinese scholars in the contemporary era and reconstruct them. To the end, the author thinks the reconstruction authorities should adhere to “China Dream,” develop the moral ideal of “devotion to the Way,” vigorously carry forward the patriotic concept of “thinking for the country and the people,” and encourage moral activities featuring combination of knowing and doing.
