Teaching Chinese characters in Chinese education is essentially different from teaching Chinese as a second language, which is mainly derived from different teaching objects. The object of Chinese education is ethnic Chinese, who have more or less retained the Chinese culture, have a certain background about Chinese and Chinese characters. The purpose of Chinese education is to maintain national characteristics through Chinese and Chinese culture education and finally achieve ethnic identity. In other words, one of the goals and tasks of Chinese education is ethnic and cultural identity education.Chinese characters are written symbols recording Chinese and Chinese culture,part of Chinese culture, which should be contained in Chinese education. Meanwhile,learning Chinese characters is difficult for ethnic Chinese. So we should pay attention to teaching Chinese characters that ought to have the target to cultural identity while the teaching methods should be consistent with the ethnic Chinese background. Therefore, it is necessary to re-examine teaching Chinese characters in Chinese education in the perspective of cultural identity.This paper aims at researching how to teach Chinese characters in the context of cultural identity. The content includes the definition, goals and ideas of teaching Chinese characters in Chinese education, the relationship between several projects to deal with in the cultural identity horizon, the plight of teaching Chinese characters faced with and the measures to be taken. As for research method, firstly, by literature,comb definitions, teaching goals and ideas of teaching Chinese characters, the basic relationships: whether the Chinese characters reading and writing teach together or separately, the relationship between teaching Chinese characters and teaching Pinyin,the relationship between teaching Chinese characters and teaching Chinese culture.Secondly, through the questionnaire and interview, study the difficulties faced with and analyze the reasons for these difficulties, then put forward the corresponding teaching strategies.
