Lei Feng is the most representative character in the Chinese political propaganda,During the past50years, media reports on the lei Feng have never stopped in ourcountry, therefore the spirit of lei Feng has a long influence on our society, thecollective memory about Lei Feng memory has become an important part of Chinesepeople’s spiritual life.The formation of collective memory is been effected by subjective and objectivefactors, thus the media plays an important role in the process of construction ofcollective memory, the media memory is an important part of the collective memory.Media is not only a chronicler of history, or the history of sung, the media acts as abridge that connects the past and now. Media is not only an important informationcarrier for people to receive information, but also an important method of publicopinion propaganda. The purpose for Media to call for people to learn from typical isto lead the public opinion, at the same time to wake up the collective memory,resulting in a decisive effect in terms of identity.Collective memory construction about Lei Feng is the result of the politicalpropaganda, Party newspaper which is under the political control has become animportant propaganda tool. In this research, I take the reports from People’s Daily inthe past50years, deeply analyze how the party newspaper stand for the nationalauthority to construct the typical characters from the perspective of collective memoryand identity construction, so as to explore the identity behind the media propagandaAlong with changes in media ecology, the emergence of new media give the public aspontaneous expression of the memory about Lei Feng and offer a variety of carriers,there exist many differences about Lei Feng’s memory between the party newspapersand the new media. How did the old and new media construct the collective memoryabout Lei Feng? To solve these problems is of great significance for informationcommunication, public opinion propaganda and culture research.
