World wide food scandals lead to a growing academic interest in food safety inrecent years. Due to the development of international business and food transaction, itis necessary to consider building a more rational and modern food safety regulationsystem to prevent food risks especially those coming from imported products. China,as one of the biggest food importing country, should learn from other developedcountries and make an effort to tackle food safety problems that abound in importedfood industry and take modernized food safety standards into considering whenmodifying its own food related policies.This study investigates food safety policies in USA, Europe, Japan and HongKong, analyzes the weakness of Chinese current food safety regulation system, andexplores strategies for the Chinese government to establish a world class food importregulation system, in order to ensure the safety of its own domestic food market andfood industry.
