China’s sea froniter security mainly refers to keeping the integrity of the marineterritory and marine rights and keep them inalienable. At present, based on the inside andoutside, domestic and international factors, China’s sea frontier security problem isoutstanding with performances that China’s many islands and reefs are still under foreignoccupiers and some disputes still exist on territorial sovereignty and maritime rights. With the improvement of China’s comprehensive strength, especially the militarycapability, China is likely to put these long-term chronic disease into the agenda, whichmay cause suspicions and alerts on the regional order of the related parties. The securitybetween the China’s sea frontier and land border is obviously different. The sea frontiersecurity involves more multiple factors such as the United Nations Convention on theLaw of the Sea and other relevant international laws, which are not always good forChina. The international community deliberately ignored and distorted the Chinese seafrontier security for a long time, which also creates an unhelpful situation for China. Atthe same time, some countries increase China’s difficulties for sea frontier securitymaintenance. Hard power, especially the military, probably leads to conflict. For China, defending the security of sea frontier is the responsibility of the Chinese government andit is the embodiment of national sovereignty and dignity. To reach an early settlement ofsea frontier security crisis, it is necessary to conduct practical, concrete analysis andresearch on sea frontier security. In the history of the world, the feature of multiple aspects on sea frontier security isobvious. In Robert O. Keohane and Joseph S. Nye co-authored book with the namePower and Interdependence, the author explains the complex interdependence to be ideal, which is different compared to the realism, and regards the ocean as a typical complexinterdependent model for analysis. That is also consistent with sea frontier security. Mostof the sea frontier security issues include one or more countries. China’s sea frontiersecurity indisputably has the characteristics of the complex interdependence, and thesecharacteristics can be regarded as a paradigm. Therefore, using the theory of complexinterdependence to have China’s sea frontier security research is feasible and necessary. The research methods of this paper mainly include the comprehensive analysis, the method of combining theory and practice and the case study. Through comparation, contaction and on the basis of analyzing the complex interdependence characteristic ofthe China’a sea frontier crisis, the essay emphatically has a case study on the SouthChina issue from the perspective of sensitivity and vulnerability. Through the elements ofcontact, agenda and force in the complex interdependence, it can inspire China to graspthe initiative in China’s asymmetric interdependence in sea frontier security, and to keepsensitivity while reducing vulnerability, and constantly to promote China’s sea frontiersecurity construction. It is hoped that this research is helpful in theoretical reference andpractice guiding under the process of maritime power of China.
