A great number of food related illnesses and death had made food safety become a big issue in nowadays. Traceability had been added into General Food Law in both the EU and China to improve the ability of government and manufacturers to control food. Research about implementation of traceability had been conducted by several scholars.The aim of this thesis is through comparison of the EU and Chinese policies regarding traceability in food supply chain and consumer survey, to find out existing problems and shortages of Chinese policies and obtain a basic understanding of consumer’s attitude in food safety and traceability.Findings identified that institution setting and division of responsibilities of Chinese food safety supervision system is a major reason affects effective work of food safety. In addition, lack of information transparency and consumer education caused a significant lower proportion of Chinese consumer awareness of traceability and had distrust attitude to their foods.
