In the long history of China’s development, the seperation of poverty and the pursuit of prosperity are the beautiful vision of all the people since ancient times. In order to change the poor and weak conditions, the Chinese Communist Party led the people to wage a tenacious exploration, not only created a new China, but also established a great cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics, in order to achieve a prosperous, modern democratic, civilized and harmonious country. The18th Congress of China’s Communist Party advocates prosperity, democracy, civilization and harmonious socialist core values as the basic value content and the target of national levels, which compacts the consensus on the value of the entire party and society. The pursuit of prosperity is a response to the social and historical trends, an inheritance of traditional Chinese culture and the outstanding achievements of human civilization and a requirement of the development of socialism with Chinese characteristics. This thesis explores Confucius, Kang, Sun Yat-sen, Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping, Jiang Zemin and Hu Jintao’s prosperity thinking so as to clarify sorts of context about the rich and powerful ideas in various historical stages. The thesis defines the rich and powerful scientific connotation from an economic connotation, comprehensive national connotation and socialist core values respectively. Finally, the thesis points that the process to achieve prosperity is dynamic and systematic, and sums up the path to achieve prosperity, which helps us to grasp the concept of prosperity from the height of history and reality, theory and practice. The thesis has profound theoretical and practical significance in promoting the realization of China’s social development and prosperity.
