Research On The Impact That Labor Union Has On The City Integration Of Rural Migrant Workers

Abstract:Rural migrant workers are the most important participant during the process of industrialization and urbanization of China. Due to many factors like social policy, self-character and environment, migrant workers come into plenty of difficulties and obstacles when they are trying to get integrated into urban city. For the work units, how to fully utilize their advantage in organization position and social resources possession in helping migrant workers’integration is one of the most significant jobs for them. Promoting migrant workers’city integration is also an important path for the work unit to organize and implement social management innovation.This thesis is focused on the how migrant workers can get integrated into city life of three levels, stating from the work union angle. Theoretical and practical research methods are combined here, as well as the combination of quantitative and qualitative analysis. The Work Union of Hunan province has conducted a deep investigation of the three level integration phenomenon with ten thousand migrant workers in Hunan. The investigation reveals the reality that migrant workers have experienced a lot of obstacles, and the work union also came across many difficulties in helping migrant workers’integration. Then the reasons behind those obstacles and difficulties are deeply analyzed, which are the basis for systematic measures and solutions on correspondingly.The investigation result shows that work union hasn’t reached an ideal result in promoting migrant workers to fully integrate into urban life. The reason behind this for one part is that the migrant workers themselves are in high mobility, with weak constitutive figure, as well as superficially literate. Another reason behind this is that the household registration system and flaws of work units have caused many obstacles for the benefits maintenance of migrant workers. This article combines the author’s work experiences in Hunan Work Unit with the subjective and objective analysis of the problems in the benefits maintenance for migrant workers. This article also uses relative theory to look into the main difficulties for migrant workers to get integrated into urban city life from the work unit angle. Finally some measurements and suggestions are brought forward that the work units should play their full pats in helping to reduce the benefit damage of migrant workers. This article aims to conclude a systemicallytheoretical analysis of "integration in three level", as well as provide a scientific and feasible advice for the work unit to promote the city integration of migrant workers.
