In a present day society, in accordance with a significant development of theeconomic rate and the information times, the local governments have made steps topromote citizens’ life quality, which are speeding up infrastructure construction andan improvement of living conditions. It is worth noting that the local governmentshave been conscious of the city brand grandly that has become a key word in localgovernments’ competition strategies. By reason of the highly known city brand wouldhelp to attract to talents and investment. In addition, it would represent that amultiplier effects in city development and a fast-expanding travel industry as well as alarge-scale communication of local economy and culture. Furthermore, the localcitizens will be proud of their hometown. Moreover, the local government playscrucial roles in building the city brand, which are leader, motivator and coordinator.In order to increasing the core competence, the government officials should payattention to enhancing city fame and reputation.This paper is aimed to study the city brand of the city of Quanzhou that is locatedin south of Fujian province. As well-known, comparing with its history and culture aswell as the rapid growth of Quanzhou’s economy, a development of its city brand isbehind Xiamen (the special economic zone) and Fuzhou (the capital city) significantlyin Fujian province. In this research, firstly, combined with numerous of relativeChinese and foreign literatures, it shows that the background of Chinese city brandand the local governments’ measures, and then the research objectives. Secondly, thispaper studies the relationship between the city brand and the policies of localgovernment. Thirdly, the research states the Quanzhou historical culture and theeconomic development simply. And it indicates certain weaknesses of policies ofQuanzhou local government on the topic of city brand. Finally, listing and analyzingthe famous examples of Chinese and foreign city brand, and then it allows makingsuggestions to Quanzhou local government on improving its own city brand. Thereare some following key points for helping officials to make contributions to theQuanzhou city brand. First of all, it should systematically list the history, nature environment, traditional culture, folk custom and innovation of entrepreneurs suchculture soft power elements. Additionally, planning scientific and prospectivestrategies for the city brand building is aimed to supplying the public services and theproducts for development of firms and corporation of cities. Similarly, it also canintegrate various sub-brands and became a cluster-brand. Further, so as to increase thevalue of the city brand, it is said that applying certain specific modern path to promotethe city brand, as internet.
