Laclau and Mouffe were the iconic characters among the Post-Marxists. This thesis mainly studied the Multiple Radical Democratic Theory of Laclau and Mouffe, and it focused on the process of constructing this theory, deeply investigating the ideological system of Laclau and Mouffe, then seeking the useful elements of Multiple Radical Democratic Theory on our nation’s social democracy practice. This thesis introduced the specific history background and the theoretical sources of the formation of the Multiple Radical Democratic Theory from two dimensions, the reality and the history, systematically analyzing the logical construction of this theory from 5 angles, including the philosophical basis, the practice subject, the way of realizing, the value claims and the theoretical purport. Firstly, this thesis regarded the postmodernism theory as the starting point, and then, introducing the replacement of roles and the changes between different subjects based on the multiple value subjects of this theory, furthermore, interpreting the conception of hegemony and combination by specifying the realizing method of Multiple Radical Democratic Theory. And lastly, this thesis systematically introduced the process of discourse accidental combination and the important idea of discourse hegemony. After the comprehensive interpretation of this theory’s significant connotation, this thesis told that the Multiple Radical Democratic Theory was born under the requirements of the new era. This theory inherited and developed to a new stage based on the deconstruction of traditional Maxism, and it also sought the real combination of freedom and democracy under the theoretical background of socialism, helping to realize true free and democratic socialism. After deconstructing the traditional Maxism, Laclau and Mouffe thought the traditional Maxism deviated from politics, therefore, proposing that the way of multiple radical democracy substantially was the method of regressing politics. Actually, the theory construction of Laclau and Mouffe was not thoroughly abandon Maxism, there existing the insistence of socialism at the same time. The traditional socialism gets into trouble in modern society. In order to alleviate the serious situation, this theory came into being as an attemptation. Lastly, through the study of the Multiple Radical Democratic Theory, this thesis indicated that this theory can provide enlightment for building the democracy at the grass-roots level and for constructing the core socialist values.
