Inspirational education is the education of ideal and belief, which lays its key point on establishing clear aspiration and ambition. The inspirational education in our country has a long history and is developing continuously, with the earliest trace in primary ancient society and the most recent in the present socialism society. Although the title varies, the essence is consistent. Inspirational education consists of two parts, namely what kind of aspirations should be encouraged and how to inspire people to achieve them, with some concrete manifestations such as sharpening one’s wits, stimulating the fighting spirit, setting up the long-range ideals and achieving the aspirations. Referring materials across ancient times to the present society, we can sort out the developing progress of inspirational education in our country and thereupon summarize its contemporary values.This dissertation demonstrates the connotations involved in inspirational education in China and classifies the historical stages, namely the inspirational education in primary ancient society, ancient society, early modern society, and the communist party of China in socialism society. The current paper will sort out the developing progress of inspirational education in our country from these four historical stages in detail, discuss the contents and methods of inspirational education of each stage and analyze the functions, deficiencies and limitations of inspirational education in each different stage. The myths and legends, totem worship, the power of nature constituted the inspirational education in primary ancient societies, while in ancient society, it mainly includes developing good characters by reading wonderful masterpieces, establishing lofty and firm aspirations, cultivating noble characters and real-man integrity, devoting oneself absolutely to the country. The early modern societies’ inspirational education was mainly composed of democratic and scientific enlightenment, nationality discussions and national characters reform, self-education through the bourgeois revolution and patriotic movement, and new-style schools and press propaganda. Lastly, the inspirational education in the communist party of China and socialism society mainly involves fighting for the liberation for all mankind; devoting oneself to the country, serving the people, insisting on justice, taking one’s responsibilities; being fearless of dangers and difficulties, struggling hard, exploring and forging ahead to revitalize the country; indoctrinization and model-set propaganda. By sorting out the inspirational education developing progress in our country, six contemporary values can be summarized accordingly: being patriotic, serving for the public and working hard; insisting on two standards of whether or not heroism can be judged on the basis of success or failure; persisting in the combination of individual and social ideals; persevering in the wills of the sparrow and the swan going no contrary; strengthening cultivation of good characters and national spirit; insisting on the equality, practicability and diversity of inspirational education methods.
