With economic development and the improvement of legislation, the standard of living of the elderly raises gradually, Including increased income, convenient medical services, housing and other travel convenient and so on. But different scholars have different views that whether the happiness of the elderly is also increased. This paper is divided into six chapters. The first chapter is an introduction. Based on changes in our well-being of older persons, legislative status of the elderly and our existing settlement patterns of the elderly, we present this point of this paper--the happiness of the elderly and the mode of living. The background section is divided into three areas:"Often go home to have a look" into legislation, existing settlement patterns of the elderly, "house-for-pension program" pilot reform. The second chapter is a literature review on the happiness and factors of well-being. The third chapter is the qualitative analysis of settlement patterns and happiness. Based on the difference of economic, medical care and mental, we can get the impact on the happiness of the elderly, which lays the groundwork for empirical research. The chapter four is model analysis, by establishing mathematical model to analyze the impact of income, medical expenses, and mental state of well-being of the elderly. The fifth chapter is empirical analysis. The first part is the data description, including the explanatory variables, the main explanatory variable and other control variables. The second part is a model for impact analysis settlement patterns on happiness. Then the final part is the ordered logistic empirical analysis method, the results under different models and the significance analysis. The last chapter is the conclusion and policy recommendations.Through qualitative analysis, we can find that there are differences of economy, health care, mental state within different settlement patterns of the elderly. Overall, the elderly living together with others have an advantage over the other two modes of the elderly. In addition, through the models and ordered logistic regression, we can know that there are significant differences in settlement patterns happiness. Co-residence elderly and elderly living in nursing home tend to have a higher sense of happiness. Economic, medical and spirit aspects also have significant impacts on the well-being of the elderly. In order to avoid the influence of settlement patterns and economic, medical, spiritual aspects, we introduce the cross-term of settlement patterns and the three. We can find that the better mental state of the elderly living alone, the higher the happiness. Economic, medical, spiritual aspects show a positive effect on the happiness of co-residence elderly and the elderly living in nursing homes Finally, this paper presents four policy recommendations, including expanding the way of pension, improving the elderly security system, medical assistance services and mental state. There are innovations in the theoretical and empirical aspects of this paper. Firstly, we analyze the happiness of the elderly by living patterns, which is different from the previous income, family structure analysis happiness of the elderly. Secondly, there is some theoretical significance, through the impact mechanism analysis and theoretical analysis. Finally, we introduce the interaction of settlement patterns with economic, medical, spiritual aspects in order to make the conclusions convincing.
