From the Disintegration of the Soviet Union to now, there is a profound change in the geopolitics of the Commonwealth of the Independent States. With the constant east expansion of the EU and NATO, they are increasingly reinforcing the political infiltration through the CIS. Due to their expansion, Russia’s geopolitical space is seriously squeezed, and the control of the CIS is also influenced. The CIS is encountering unprecedented challenge, casting a shadow over their prospect of development. Confronted with this hostile environment, Russia has sped up modified the policy in the region of CIS. Meanwhile, Russia plans to actively intervene the crashes broken in the region in order to defend the security of it, weaken the effect of Europe and America, and expand the strategy space of development.This paper mainly adopts literature analysis and case study method, combs the Russia intervention in the course of CIS conflict, analyzes the characteristics of its actions, and tries to explore the impact.This paper is divided into five chapters. The first chapter mainly introduces the theoretical framework of conflict intervention, and the development and practice of this theory. The second chapter mainly introduces the policy of the Russian intervention of CIS conflicts, including the background, the aims, the means and the driving forces. The driving forces which emphatically include the internal force and external force. The international force is that Russia has combined with the behavior of the dominant position in CIS region, and the external force is Russia’s positive response to the accelerating of NATO and ASEAN. The third chapter reviews the Russian intervention of CIS conflicts and three case studies: Nagorno-Karabakh, Georgia and Ukraine. The fourth chapter mainly analyzes the characteristic of Russian intervention of the conflicts in CIS, which has four aspects: 1) Prudently using military means. 2) Attaching great importance to the peacekeeping role. 3) Flexibly using of mediation and conciliation. The fifth chapter mainly introduces the influence of the Russian intervention in the CIS conflicts. The chapter, from two aspects of positive and negative, analyzes the effect to the intervention of itself, and then the effect to the internal-CIS.As the conclusion in the end, which carries on the summary and the brief outlook about the future of Russian intervention in the CIS conflicts.
