| Since modern China, with the invasion of western powers and the decline of traditional dynasty nations, "Salvation" and "Reengineering government" had become the theme of the era. During the long-term instability and peril, various political and social methods sprung up in political and academic community. They had different value orientation to what kind of political system China should adopt, how to realize the modern national identity, how to deal with the relationship between sovereignty and civil rights issues and so on. Chang Yansheng, as a member of the patriotic intellectuals at that time, facing the division of social and political situation in China and the world trend of the rise of the nation state, launched construction and method of modern country order and conception.In this paper, according to Chang Yansheng’s social and political activities and path of thought, the construction of its national conception is situated in the context that academic community’s identity to the nation state and the constitutional design. It does different points of view on the origin of Chang Yansheng’s national conception, political connotation and the construction of national philosophy. The loss of sovereignty and political balkanization situation resulted by the failure of reconstruction of gravity center of the power in modern China make Chang Yansheng’s strong expectations to a powerful country. Chang Yansheng reinterprets the connotation of "nationalism", trying to use the political identity of modern state instead of the parochial nationalism and familism, to establish an integrated relationship between individuals and countries.He puts forward a state-establishing conception of "the united provincial autonomy", achieving the civil rights to layers from the local to the central, to promote unity by the united province.For constitutionalism, Chang Yansheng treats the implementation of constitutionalism as the basic steps that an state goes into the legal track, with a special focus on grassroots public authority and party’s political role. In addition to the idea of national constitutional system, Chang Yansheng regards biological history as the philosophical foundation of the national conception, letting modern national cultural identity be based on a scientific theory, using "national organism theory" to solve the contradiction between the national and civil rights, so as to provide scientific basis for the philosophy of life of "country first". During the process of constructing the national conception.Chang Yansheng is always trying to mediate the contradiction between the national and the individual, merging individual rights into the national interests, and thus to establish a modern national identity on political and spiritual. Systematicness and richness of Chang Yansheng’s national conception provide an different view of history-reviewing of China’s modern national conception for us. |
