Xunci is a collection of late Ming civil and penal judgments written by Zhang Kentang, during his term as magistrate of Xunxian, in northern Zhili of the Ming Dynasty. It’s very important for our study on the law of the late Ming Dynasty and the life and the law enforcement in North China.My paper focuses on Xunci written by Zhangken Tang, including the following five parts:The first part, namely the introduction, describes the reason why I choose this topic,the current research and something need to say for a simple discussion.The second part, namely the first chapter, a brief introduction on Zhangken Tang and his Xunci, Including Zhangken Tang’s life experiences, the version of Xunci, the meaning of the word Xun, and a brief introduction of the cases in Xunci.The third part, that is the second chapter, is the main part of the text, and it is also the most important part. It is divided into three sections, the cataloging, the style of the words used in Xunci, and the sources of cases, through all the three above,we conclude authenticity, uniqueness and extensiveness of Xunci, and the three characteristics make Xunci an apposite material and the importance of Xunci as a private judicial collected papers is more and more clear. The fourth part, that is the third chapter, is a brief discussion of the legal history research value of Xunci, mainly from the special cases and the grassroots judicial to discuss the value, make a preliminary exploration for the field of worthy of further research of Xunci, and try to make a little thought and summary.The fifth part, that is the conclusion and summary of the paper, and make a further and more in-depth study.
