Survey On The Status Of The Hui Migrant Workers Of Zhangjiachuan Hui Autonomous County

The rapid economic development and the accelerating of the urbanization of China have been bringing the increasing number of labor force to urban areas, among which rural labor force of ethnic minority accounts for a certain proportion. The rural labor force of ethnic minority, to some extent, differ from the Han workers in respect of choosing areas where they will work, or what sort of job they will take, etc. due to their own religious belief, living habits, cultural and educational background. Take the Hui people who believe in Islam for instance. The Hui people usually tend to work in the Northwest of China where there are comparatively more Hui People living, and choose to work in businesses of Muslim catering and Muslim food industry.ZhangJiachuan Hui Autonomous County, hometown to the writer, is one of the ethnic minority autonomous counties with the highest proportion of the Hui people, as well as a national-level poverty-stricken county and one among the new list of key counties for poverty alleviation and development the State council has established. The lack of geographic advantage, the large poverty-stricken population, the poor quality land and low agricultural output all result in a large number of surplus labor force to seek jobs outside. The flow of migrant workers is not only the population flow between the urban and rural areas, but the cross-minority communication. Therefore, we should be forced on the status of Hui migrant workers.Taking the Hui migrant workers of Zhangjiachuan County for example, the paper conducts a survey on the age, gender, cultural background, jobs, and the situation of the working area and other respects of this group. Based on the synthesis and analysis of the data, the paper makes a generalizion and conclusion and then proposes the corresponding suggestions and solutions in accordance to the difficulties and problems facing the migrant workers of ethnic minority.
