Nowadays, the rapid development of Internet technology provides a new platform on which our people could participate in the political life and social affairs more immediately and more conveniently; the rise of online political participation in recent years provides a new way in which the citizens would exercise the rights of political participation and democratic supervision according to law, which will benefit the development of China’s political socialization and the construction of a service-oriented government. Young college students have always been an important force in the process of political development and social progress, moreover, the contemporary undergraduates who grew up in the Internet environment will also play an important role in the process of our country’s socialist democracy construction. Therefore, we need to analyse the following questions further through the empirical research, such as the basic situation and characteristics of college students’online political participation, and the existing problems in the process of participation. This thesis selects the university students from Hainan University, Hainan Normal University and Qiongzhou University for the research, applying some empirical research methods, such as questionnaire survey and case interviews. Based on the analysis of the current general situation of college students’online political participation, this thesis tries to analyse how undergraduates’individual characteristics and subjective intention impact on their actual participation behavior further. Through this survey, we find out that the university students show high enthusiasm towards online political participation and hope to exercise the legitimate political participation rights through the network channels. However, there are still some issues in the actual process of participation. Firstly, the students’ consciousness and their actual performance are contradictory. Secondly, the students may follow some reasonless views blindly. Thirdly, the imbalance among the students’different levels of participation is outstanding. Given the above, this thesis tries to explore the effective solutions from the four aspects which include the rule of law, the construction of government, the guidance from university and technical controls, so as to help the students to exercise the legitimate political participation rights through the Internet more reasonably, and promote the development of college students’online political participation in our country rationally, healthily and orderly.
