In the 1930 s, as a new theoretical framework of international relationship, r ealism formed officially and became an important direction of international poli tics development trend. It had been a long time before "Realism" appeared as the thought guidelines of German foreign policy in the 19 th century. Realism t hought had been mentioned and developed by famous political theorists such a s Thucydides, Machiavelli, Hobbes, Weber, Carl and so on. In the 1940 s, Ha ns J. Morgenthau formed the systematic right political theory of realism based on criticizing and absorbing the previous results. Realism has experienced the c lassical realism, new realism, offensive realism, defensive realism, new classical realism. Although the emphasis of realism is different in each time, but the e ssence and core of the State power and national interests did not change. The United States is a country which has political tradition of realism. Both domest ic and foreign policies of the United States have reflected this feature since th e founding of United States. George W. Bush administration is in an important period, for we can see not only the great change in the international political f orces after the cold war but also the rapid expansion of its own power hoping to establish a "new world order". "9?11" made the United States become the focus of the world again. Therefore, the United States adapted its foreign polic y, which making its domestic and foreign affairs complex and diverse. Mean while, domestic political developments also experienced a "roller coaster" chang es. So, the foreign policy changes of this period is the most typically represent ative. Although many people consider the President George W. Bush Administr ation’s foreign policy conservative, but we can easily find that the United State s had been using realist foreign-policy theory to guide their practice, Therefore,the study of typical cases of the United States in specific period will undoubt edly has fundamentally far-reaching meaning on grasping the United States fore ign policy real, recognizing the current situation and future trend of internation al, especially on our research and development of Sino-US relations.The content below will give a brief introduction. The first part defines the concepts of realism, examines the origins and development of realism, andcombs the main representatives, schools of thought and the core meaning of realist political theory. The second part reviews the experience and develop ment of realistic diplomacy, focusing on the developing background and cultu ral origins of American realistic diplomatic development, describing American foreign policies in different periods, analyzing the characteristics of America n foreign policy on each phase. The third part researches the main foreign p olicy of George W. Bush administration, focusing on the big change, success ion and development, proving influence of history feelings on realistic foreig n policy. The fourth part evaluates the foreign policies of the George W. Bu sh Administration, stating its domestic and international influence, analyzing i ts facing dilemma as a result to rethink American foreign policies during thi s period.
