The national interest is the need of sovereign state to surviveand develop,is also the most fundamental basis for countries todevelop domestic and foreign policy.With the rise of China,how todevelop and maintain their own national interests has becomewidespread concern in foreign relations.Mao Zedong’s thought andpractice of diplomacy is an important part of the theory ofsocialist Chinese characteristics,in-depth study of thisissue,and taking history as a mirror,can help us see clearlypast,now and future.Influence factors of Mao Zedong’s diplomatic thoughts andpractice, has the unique background of times, and the extraordinarycharm of Mao’s personality;Mao Zedong’s diplomatic thoughts andpractice experienced the“leaning to one side”,“two fistshit”and the“a line”of three stages,until the new China was foundedto Mao’death;The basic characteristics of Mao Zedong’sdiplomatic thoughts and practice is that the dynamic integrationof the firm principles and flexible tactics,the dialectical unityof the current and long-term interests,patriotism andinternationalism in harmony;We shall evaluate it based on thefollowing principles:do not assume that as the basic thinking onthe basis of,to seek truth from facts as the fundamental maxim ofattitude,to sum up and learn from the experience and lessons forthe main purpose;the historical status of Mao Zedong’s diplomaticthoughts and practice including:maintenance the new Chinesenational security,autonomy and dignity.Initially won the big powerstatus,won a great reputation in the third world,established theuniversally recognized norms of international relations. Accumulated experience and laid the foundationas of Chinesediplomacy after the reform and opening-up;The historicallimitations of Mao Zedong’s diplomatic thoughts and practiceinclude:too strong suffering consciousness makes his judgmenterrors when Mao was old,national security interests and economicinterests come apart,in the hope of“world revolution”to solvecomplex diplomatic problems;Impliations for contemporary China diplomacy are:recognize the essence of age and keep up with thetrend of the world,accurately assess of China world position andcorrectly use of international influence,the maintenance andexpansion of national interests is the highest principle ofdiplomacy.
