Current academic research relating university student village officials have focused on the significance and the insufficiency of the plan. There are also some scholars paid attention to its operation mechanism from the aspects of the selection mechanism, training mechanism, guarantee mechanism, and exit mechanism. In addition, some research concentrated on social adjustment and role definition of the university student village officials. However, few studies focused on their construction of interpersonal relations. This thesis took M village as a case and the university student village official Miss Wang as the research object. By depth interviews, I analyzed the patterns adopted by Miss Wang during the process of constructing relations and then discovered the patterns’ special traits. The thesis arrives at a conclusion that Miss Wang had various methods of constructing relations during her tenure, such as “visiting door to door”, “tracing fate”, “referrals”, “giving presents as returns”, “concealing” and so forth. What’s more, different methods were treated to different groups. The relation between the university student village official and village cadre belongs to mixed tie.Miss Wang chose the methods of “finding referrals”, “tracing fate” and then “giving presents as returns” to construct interpersonal relations with them. The relation between Miss Wang and the needy villagers belongs to expressive ties. She chose the ways of “visiting door to door”,“visiting-chatting”, “performing ‘favor’ behaviors” to build interpersonal relations with those needy villagers and used a carrot-and-stick policy to treat tartars. In addition, she used the methods of“performing ‘favor’ behaviors” and “power-benefit swap” to get on with rich villagers which belongs to instrumental ties. Different patterns of building interpersonal relations treated to different group. These also indicate the university student village official’s rational choice.
