The second western feminist movement in the 1960 s and 1970 s sparked an emergence of Marxist Feminism. Marxist Feminism, as one of the major schools of Marxism, makes a combination between Marxism and the theory of feminism, cites and learns from Marxist theories on economy, class and essentials, and analyzes the fundamental sources of oppression towards contemporary women from the Marxist view of history. Also, it paves a way for women’s liberation. By drawing lessons from Marx’s views on solutions to women’s issues, Marxism feminists put forward Marxism Feminism. They advocate to explore the fundamental sources of oppression towards women, women’s social status and their social role with the method of class analysis and put forward the road of women’s liberation. They hold that the mode of capitalist production and patriarchy are the main causes for women’s oppression. In practice, the women’s liberation movement in China was associated with new women’s pursuit of individual liberation in the May fourth period. As the New Culture Movement went on, China also witnessed an influx of the thought of western feminism, which provided a theoretical basis for the domestic women’s liberation movement, gave new hope and propelled the women’s liberation movement in China to its climax. These historical and practical movements lay the foundation for the development of contemporary Chinese women and are practically significant to women’s liberation movement in China.Since the establishment of New China, with the constant growth of economy comes a continuously rising of contemporary Chinese women’s social status, including their spiritual awakening, their enhanced ability in political participation, their financial independence, their improvement in education, their rising status in family and their promoting knowledge of laws. However, for historical reasons, the phenomena of male superiority to female and gender difference still exist, which are still obstacles to the development and an ultimate liberation of women’s social status.By making a combination and a comparison between MarxismFeminism and the development of contemporary Chinese women, this paper tries to analyze and find the gap between the current development situation of contemporary Chinese women and the women’s liberation assumption proposed by Marxism feminists. Finally, this paper is supposed to provide practical measures to solve and improve the current development situation of contemporary Chinese women.
