After World War Ⅱ. environmental issue is gradually emerging as an important one in international politics. At first, Australia actively adjusts itself into the international environmental politics and takes active measures towards environmental diplomatic policies. However, with the increasing conflicts between international environmental politics and domestic economic interests, Australia turns to the conservative attitudes in environmental diplomacy. Now, Australia realizes the uncompromising nature of international environmental issue and therefore makes its attempts to switch back to the active responses in environmental diplomacy. Looking at the history of Australia environmental diplomacy, international environmental politics and domestic interests are the two driving forces. On one hand, Australia cannot isolate itself with the external influences of international environmental politics. On the other hand, Australia’s policy making must be based on its own domestic interests. Generally speaking, Australia insists the priority of domestic interests, bases its diversified participation strategy on pragmatism and tactically elevates the status of environmental diplomacy in its general foreign affairs. In the future, under the pressure of international environmental politics, Australia will continue its active attitudes in environmental diplomacy. But in terms of intensity, it is estimated that Australia may not please the international society. For China, it is supposed to realize and actively participate the international environmental politics. And at the same time China need take precautions to avoid the situation that the international society might aim its spear at China after Australia’s active switch in environmental diplomacy.
