Minority Customary Law, as an important part of customary law, is one kind of social norms, which was gradually formed in the thousand years of production and life practice of China’s vast minority, was handed down from generation to generation, existed today, and was followed by the ethnic members. It has profound practical and theoretical significance for the research of Minority Law. At the same time, understanding and grasping the knowledge of Minority Customary Law can better promote the legal construction in minority areas; provide a solid legal protection for minority areas to build a harmonious society, help speed up the process of full realization of a law-governing country.Yi takes Customary Law as the criterion, and the whole society should adjust the conflicts of social strata, and regulate the relationship according to Customary Law. Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture is one important area of Yi’s thriving. There Customary Law resolves disputes by the way of benefiting maintaining the emotions of each party. It can not only effectively popularize and improve the legal consciousness of the villagers, but can supplement the lack of national law’s power and through the mediation, effectively reduce the cost of dispute resolution and so on. However, in Yi Customary Law, there exist the phenomenon of ignoring the individual rights, the lack of legal awareness and the concept, not resolving the new disputes, etc. This paper, introducing the Li Customary Law of Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture, aims to provide some suggestions and views on the settlement of disputes through Customary Law.
