The dispute in the South China Sea between China and Vietnam is produced in a specific historical period, which is closely related to the global pattern and regional pattern, as well as the development of the country. Based on the geopolitical theory, this paper analyzes the dispute in the South China Sea between China and Vietnam during the Cold War from three levels of the pattern of international relations, region and nation,and then puts forward the corresponding countermeasures.China and Vietnam not only have two thousand years friendly history and similar conditions, but also have the similar cultures and relevant economic. But why the dispute in the South China Sea has taken place between this two countries during the Cold War continually? What are the main influencing factors? Whether they will interact each other? This paper is divided into six chapters, which is based on the geopolitical theory and then analyzed the bipolar structure, the regional geopolitical pattern of the South China Sea and the geopolitical environment of China and Vietnam in three levels of pattern of international relations, region and nation. By analyzing, the three levels of pattern of international relations, region and nation play different roles on the dispute, but at the same time, they interact and restraint each other. The level of nation affects the region and the pattern of international relations from inside to outside, which the level of region affects nation inward, but affects the pattern of international relations outward. While the pattern of international relations affects region and nation inwardly. But in that, the bipolar structure has dominated the international relations during the Cold War, and the geopolitical pattern of region plays an undertake the role. In this regard, this paper puts up with three corresponding historical thoughts about the three levels. They are to integrate into the pattern of international relations, to seek the regional cooperation and to pursuit the development and growth of a nation.
