The deepening of elementary education curriculum reform and teaching innovation requires the principal to change the concept and role of education, from the administrative leadership to the combination of curriculum and instructional leadership. The essence of school instructional leadership is to promote the professional development of teachers, improve the academic achievement of students, thus promote the enhancement of overall school performance. The principal is the leader of the school instructional leadership, whose performance level of instructional leadership to a large extent determines the development of teaching in schools. However, in the school field, the principal doesn’t have a proper understanding of his own role and power, which leads to the lack and lost of the instructional leadership.This research takes the case of primary school principal as the object of study, aims to describe the current situation of the school’s instructional leadership, has insight into the existed problem, and thus put forward effective recommendations on the practice work of instructional leadership to the principal. According to the research purpose, we selected R primary school in N city as a case study, collected and sorted out the material by means of literature, participant observation, interview and literature analysis. It was found that L principal had got a preliminary understanding of the concept of instructional leadership, taken measures to implement the instructional leadership on the context of education, and made some progress. However, due to the lack of principal’s professional knowledge, the drawbacks of the school bureaucracy management and lack of external environmental support for school, the performance of instructional leadership got being hindered.Based on the analysis of the school case, the author puts forward some corresponding strategies to enhance principals’instructional leadership. First of all, the principal should transform the concept of education, construct personal philosophy of education, and deeply understand the concept about principals’ instructional leadership. Secondly, the principal should improve the instructional leadership behaviour, get a panoramic view of that and effectively do some operating. Finally, the principal should actively construct the school’s instructional leadership community, achieve excellent instructional leadership on the process of playing the leading role in the cultural construction, upgrading the practical wisdom of the members, enhancing their sense of cooperation and capabilities, relying on the support of constructivism leadership.
