Development economics is a practical discipline, which studies theeconomic development of developing countries to closely integrate theircomplex economic and social issues, and seek economic development. Thecurrent domestic development economic teaching is mostly to follow thetraditional teaching designed to impart knowledge. The design of teachingcontent is from fixed materials. The main teaching method is that teachersteach the general principles, but do not associate teaching with the problems ofeconomic and social development in developing countries. Its evaluation isbased on the results of final examinations, named Results Evaluation. Thisteaching design has made development economic teaching cut off from thedemands of current economic and social development, and resulted in poorteaching effectiveness, and even students are not good at learning, innovation, analytical research and practice. China is almost the world’s largestdeveloping country, which has experienced more than30years of rapideconomic growth period. For a series of questions appearing in development,China summarizes and reflects on the experiences of economic development. It determines to transform the way of China’s economic development, below8%economic growth, to promote economic development to return to stableand sustainable growth period. Economic transformation of a country can notdevelop without the support of economics talents. A new type of China’s economic development needs colleges and universities to break the traditionalteaching mode, to cultivate a batch of economics talents who can show theirlearning ability, innovative ability, analytical research and practice capabilities. Therefore, this article aims at the problems in the design of the traditionalteaching, from the perspective of Backward Design combined withInquiry-based Teaching, to propose ‘the Back-ward Inquiry-based TeachingModel’ of Development Economics and the Back-ward Design Frame of theInquiry-based Development Economics, and to use it in the design of specificcases and classroom practice among development economics teaching.Practical results have shown that it can inspire students’ motivation andlearning attitude, promote their knowledge level, and cultivate theircomprehensive ability to use Inquiry-based Teaching combined with theBack-ward Design in development economics teaching. Meanwhile, it hasbroken the traditional teaching way, changing teaching theories ofdevelopment economics contradictory with practical application, andimproved teaching efficiency.
