With the rapid development of multimedia technology and communication technology, themultimedia study in network multimedia environment has already become the main learning styleof high school students in the new age. As one of the key ability of multimedia study, visual searchcapability receives more and more attention from scholars. However, in previous studies, theconcepts of visual research and visual search capability are confused, and meanwhile, studies onthe visual search capability mainly concentrate on the influence of external factors on the visualsearch capability, and there are few studies on the visual search capability of high school studentsfrom the gender perspective. Besides, it is still controversial among scholars. In this research, concepts of visual search and visual search capability are defined at first, andit proposes that the visual search capabilities mainly consist of information recognition capability, reliance on clues and meta-search capability. And then real websites are selected, and eyemovement experiment is designed. Two experiments are conducted for high school students withTobii T120series of non-helmet-mounted eye tracker. In experiment one, if there is genderdifference in the visual recognition capability in web surface is explored, while in experiment two,if there is gender difference in the visual search capability of high school students in web interfacewith different clues is explored. The research results are shown as follows:(1) There is gender difference in the visual search capability of high school students in webinterface. Visual search capability is a comprehensive ability, and the gender difference is reflectedin the capability of visual search capability.(2) There is gender difference in the visual search capability of high school students in webinterface. There are differences in the visual recognition speed between boys and girls, and boyshave faster visual recognition speed than girls.(3) There is gender difference in the visual search capability of high school students in webinterface with different clues. Under the action of internal and external clues and clue effectiveness, suggestions of gender measurement for the website design process are proposed for teachers andwebsite designers. Finally, suggestions of gender measurement for the website design process are proposed forteachers and website designers.
