Through30years of reform and opening-up,with the development of economy, theeconomic level of each has increased, but at the same time,the regional gap is alsowidening.The regional gap makes people moving from the areas where the economicdevelopment is low.More and more people is gathering at the areas with higher level ofeconomic development, employment opportunity,wage and social public service.Theimportance of the influence factors of population aggregation are different in differentperiod.At the early stage of economic development,the economic development level,employment and wage level influenced population aggregation relatively strongly. Withthe people’s life quality increasing to a certain stage, the influence of public goodssupply and other factors are increasing continuously.By using20cities as a sample,on the one hand,analyse the city populationaggregation from two aspects of static and dynamic,on the other hand,establish acomprehensive evaluation system of city public goods supply level to analyse thedifference of city public goods supply. Then,establish the panel data econometric modelto analyse the influence of public goods supply on the population aggregation.The mainconclusions are as follows:Firstly,the population aggregation increased steadily and showed a rising trend in20cities as time goes on.The ability of population aggregation of eastern cities is thebiggest,the central cities take second place,and the ability of western cities is theweakest.Secondly,overall the results showed that the public goods supply level showed arising trend as time goes on.The public goods supply level of eastern cities is thehighest,the central cities take second place,and the public goods supply level ofwestern cities is the lowest.From the contrast of every types of public goods supply, wecan get similar results.Thirdly,the public goods supply has significant influence on populationaggregation and people are willing to choose the place which has a higher level ofpublic goods supply.The influence of medical and health public goods supply level onpopulation aggregation is the most significant, followed by the education and culturalsupply level and infrastructure supply level. The social security public goods suppy alsoinfluenced the population aggregation significantly, but slightly lower than other three kinds of supply level.The improvement of city public goods supply level, on the one hand, can improveresidents’ quality of life, improve people’s livelihood; On the other hand, can enhancethe ability of population aggregation and promote the coordinated development ofregion or city economy.In this paper, based on the above research conclusions,we givesome relevant policy recommendations to government:on the basis of narrowing theregional difference and enhancing the national people’s living standard, the governmentcan guide the population aggregation to promote the coordinated development ofregion or city economy through the rational allocation of urban public goods.
