Research On The Excellent Development Discipline Of The Young World Elite University In Europe And America

With the accelerated process of higher education globalization, the construction ofworld high-level universities is one of the core tasks of China’s higher educationdevelopment at present stage. After years of key aid and construction, several domesticwell-known universities who established their educational goals as the world high-leveluniversities or world first-class universities, the overall progress still exists a large gapwith the development goal and can’t make people satisfactory. Yet, a group of younguniversities, such as the University of Warwick(UK), the University of York(UK),theUniversity of California,San Diego(US), the University of Waterloo(Canada),Universite Paris-Sud(France), Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam (Netherland)andAustralian National University(Australian)which were established after World War II,have achieved outstanding academic achievement and high academic reputation withinjust a few decades. They have gone out of an excellent development path to become theYoung World Elite Universities. It has the value and significance of the same typecomparison for a large number of China’s young colleges and universities.Based on defining the concept of the Young World Elite Universities, by observingthe young universities’ comprehensive ranking status in the three World UniversityRankings (THE, QS, ARWN) in the last decade and seriously considering its regionalrepresentation, then select out four case universities-the University of Warwick; theUniversity of York;the University of California,San Diego and the University ofWaterloo-which have the typical significance. Then the profile and the effectiveness ofexcellent development of the four universities are briefly introduced. And the basicexperience of excellent development of the four universities has been the focus ofanalysis. Through summarizes these common experience, proposes five disciplineswhich can explain the Young World Elite Universities’ excellent development. Thepursuit of excellent is university’s foundation, at the same time, we need seekdevelopment according to university’s actual situation; convergence of high-qualitytalented person; entrepreneurship development oriented, promote research collaborativeinnovation development; guide by international development and build strategicpartnership actively; serve the community as their responsibility and fully integrate andsupport for regional development.Make the past serve the present and make foreign things serve China. Contrary to the construction status and realistic needs of domestic high-level university, this paperfurther analyzes the domestic well-known universities who established their educationalgoals as the world high-level universities or world first-class universities’developmentstatus in recent years. Then let them compare with the Young World Elite Universities inEurope and US, draws a basic conclusion-there is a big gap between them. In responseto the gap, the paper puts forward that our domestic universities need to fully absorb theexcellent development experience of the Young World Elite Universities in theconstruction process of the world high-level universities or world first-class universities.Some enlightenment or suggestions are proposed, such as refining the educational goalsof excellence, establishing global excellence development evaluation; converginghigh-quality talent, constructing the system of high-level qualified person; persisting thecombination of the scientific and educational, implementing the innovation-drivenstrategy comprehensively; deepening international development strategy, activelyparticipating in the global academic competition and cooperation; enhancing the abilityof social service, greatly improving community participation and integrationdegree.Thus speeding up the construction process of the world high-level universitiesand world first-class universities in China.
