A Research On Composition Teaching Strategies In High School

Composition teaching is an important aspect in Chinese language teaching.Practical writing teaching seems a hard nut to crack all the time, having become a bigproblem in the Chinese language teaching. Because of this, the Chinese teachers areto provoke the burden with determination and perseverance."People can not be weak,but there is a long way to go." As language teachers, we have the responsibility andmission to explore the methods and strategies of writing teaching to improve thestudents’ writing level.This research is based on previous researches. The author took Kang Xian No.1Middle School as an example, using the method of literature review, questionnairesurvey and case study. According to the existing problems current conditions in thewriting teaching in this school, the author did a relatively profound investigation andanalysis through the survey of the40teachers and120students. The survey found that:the current situation of composition teaching in Kang Xian No.1Middle School is notoptimistic. The results of the questionnaire showed that the main causes of theproblems in composition teaching are as following: First, the majority of students cannot accurately express the ideas of their own; Second, the students don’t have muchinterest in writing; Third, the teachers give the composition comment generally instead of focusing on a certain point; Fourth, the teachers do not pay enough attentionto the composition writing teaching; Fifth, many teachers fear to check the studentscomposition. In view of the problems in the writing teaching in the school, the authorread a lot of literatures, learned and drew lessons from the predecessors about writingteaching experience, then put forward the solution to problems in writing strategies.Firstly, it is necessary to cultivate the good habit of writing from two aspects. On theone hand, students should be encouraged to read more extracurricular books. On theother hand, students should be encouraged to develop good habits of writing.Secondly, the teachers should "sewer" composition, refining essence, encouragingstudents to share their compositions with the classmates, creating a good compositionwriting teaching situation to stimulate students’ interest in writing. Finally, the author proposed to improve the composition evaluation system. This part mainly expoundedthe three points of view:(1) Teachers should pay attention to the composition teachingand evaluation.(2) Students should be regarded as the main body of writing teaching,to participate and to revise the composition.(3) Teachers should find a certain point togive concrete comment rather than general comments. Teachers should also payattention to the power of comments.In conclusion, with the survey results and deep thinking, the author found thatalthough the new curriculum reform has made a vigorous pace, for Kang Xian No.1Middle School, such a remote rural area, cannot follow the pace of the change. Thecounty’s education level is low. Students’ foundation is weak. The teaching of writingin senior high school is unpractical. Even so, the author thinks that we should explorethe ways to improve students’ writing level. Not to mention to strengthen students’ability of reading and a term appropriate to reduce the students’ writing contents, onlyto “sewer” composition can stimulate students’ interest in writing. Therefore, weshould take the students as the main body, encourage them to take their ownresponsibility to study and cultivate students’ keen interest in writing. To be a “writer”,Chinese teachers should make themselves as examples to students, giving more careto motivate students as well as cultivating a good habit of writing. Only in this waywill students enjoy writing. But in order to take samples easier, the author onlystudied Kang Xian No.1Middle School, not including other high schools. This willhave a certain impact on the results of the study. The author is expected to expand thescope and target of study, make greater efforts, provide more help to the front-lineteachers and improve the students’ writing level in the future.
