After entering the era without Yao Ming, our national team finished the30thOlympic journey at London with all five losses at the group stage which made it theworst performance since history. The result has exposed the gap between the ChineseMen’s National Basketball Team and the national teams of the rest of the world. Todetermine where the problems lay, using methods of literature consultation, specialistconsultation, replay analyses, mathematics statistics, comparative analysis, and logicalanalysis, this thesis has come to the following conclusion after the replays arewatched:1.There are gaps but not differences between the centres of the Chinese Men’sNational Basketball team and the centres of the other teams in terms of age, heightand weight of the players. The Quetelet index at a significant low level causedcompetitiveness of players to reduce. Main centres are relatively old.2.Scramble the ball of the Chinese centres is mainly catching the ball whilemoving at the mid and near-far court by relying on fast speed and vigilance of steps. This fulfills the requirements of modern basketball.3.The decrease in moving ability and lack of competitiveness of the Chinesecentres caused a huge gap in point scores between them and the teams from othercountries.4.In terms of shooting and position of shooting, the Chinese centres are usuallyshooting with one arm with certain heights at mid and near-far court, but scarcely atthe restricted area using hook shot and slam dunk. Methods of shooting are too unitarywhich cannot combine the advantage of height with the many methods.5.The body competitiveness and causing the other team to foul of the Chinesecentres are at a significantly low level in means of the mainly mid and near-far courtfield activity, keeping the ball while offending of the Chinese centre are less than theother teams’, causing the other team to foul, competing for rebounds are also less.Turnovers while offending are mainly the result of lack of accuracy in catching andpassing the ball in severe body competition. 6.Senses of tactics of Chinese centres are relatively good with many indents ofbasic cooperation. Offending cooperation is mainly bucket play, then screening.7.The breakthrough skills of the Chinese centres are relatively strong and haveskills in starting an offence quickly, however, lack skills in soon to follow up.The following suggestions are provided to help solve the above problems:1.Improve trainings in the competitiveness of centres.2.Improve trainings in shooting while moving and strong competing againstothers.3.Improve trainings in screening cooperation and increase the activeness, skillsof screening, precisely catch screening opportunities of centres for players without theball to help improve the success in screening.4.Improve the teaching and trainings to young centres to help reserve personnelof the future.
