This research focuses on the transformation of perfume consumption sphere around1949in Shanghai. Topics have been dealt with:the changes of perfume consumption sphere in urban spaces, the reasons for those changes, and individual’s reaction to the transformation of life-style.As per Lefebvre’s view, space is the result of several relations of production, and it produces and shapes the social relations. Based on this theory, the analysis of how social relations function in space is the key to the changes of space. In different period, the power varies that domains in the space of consumption and accordingly the game among the powers could affect the production of space.In1950s the government redesigned the arrangement of city space, which eventually led to "representations of space". The privatization of public space is not possible in this circumstance, which implies the result of social control. The individual under the social structure and in the urban spaces would react to these changes. Through the dynamic interview of the urban transformation, this research discovered how state, economic, or cultural power penetrated into individual daily life and his life-style.
