In the educational area, we are paying more attention to "how to teach" in the field of second language learning, that is to say to adopt different teaching approach to different students. During this process learners’individual differences are becoming increasingly important. People are concentrating on the affective factors of individual differences gradually. The researches on how the foreign language learning is influenced by affective factors are carrying on step by step, and then we have got so much achievement. But the objects of attention of these researches are mainly about college and middle school students, they are rarely about Secondary Vocational School ones. Secondary Vocational School students is a special group, they were defeated in high school entrance examination, and then they chose to go into Secondary Vocational School, in another word, they are the losers in the high school entrance examination. Most of them always only follow their own inclinations; have no interesting in studying; no life dreams and future plans clearly; poor basis, especially in English; and their affective filter degree is very high. Therefore, it’s too hard to improve their English achievement. As a English teacher in Secondary Vocational School, the author manages to find out methods to low students’affective filter, furthermore to change their current situation, and then improve their English performance during the stage in Secondary Vocational School. The author chose the students of Inner Mongolia Chemical Vocational College where she works for as research objects, setting theories of what kinds of affective factors influence the second language learning as theoretical basis. The author separated class one and two of2012freshmen in chemical major into control and experimental classes. Through adopting Literature Review, Interviewing Method and Experimental Method she tried to find out the affective factors and the reasons of influencing Secondary Vocational School students’English learning. The author got the conclusion by using Excel and SPSS13.0to analyze data of tests and questionnaires, which is that Secondary Vocational School students’degree of affective filter is very high, the roots of this problem are that students have no self-confidence in language learning and no strong motivation, but intense anxiety. Through interviews, the author found that the reasons of such current affective situation are that they always failed in English learning in the past, they got negative evaluations from their teachers and other classmates who study well, they are afraid of examination and their employment situation is not good and so on. The author adjusted the teaching methods to the experimental class based on the conclusion of interviews and data analysis, but she just used original methods to the control class. After a period of experimentation, the author found that the affective filter of the experimental class decreased significantly and their English achievement improve obviously. However, the affective filter of control class lowed and their English performance improved certainly, yet the degree of variability was significantly smaller than the experimental class. Accordingly, the author got the conclusion that during the English teaching, teachers not only need to attach importance to cognitive education, but to emotional aspects, we could improve students’achievement through decreasing their affective filter.
