In our country, researches on English materials development have changed a lotsince the new curriculum of basic education came into effect in2001. With thedeepening of reform, we begin to have more than one series of textbooks under thesame syllabus. In this situation, it’s important to analyze and evaluate the teachingmaterials for Junior schools. This thesis aims to analyze and evaluate the dialogues inPEP Junior English Go For It, in the hope of finding out the advantages anddisadvantages, so that it can provide some advice.The author summarizes the criteria for dialogues based on the materials evaluationtheory, and analyzes dialogues in PEP Junior English Go For It with the method“internal evaluation method”, to answer these two questions: To what extent are thedialogues educational, entertaining and flexible? To what extent do they conform to theprinciples, for example: the materials should be graded in proper sequence; thematerials should be authentic and so on?The results shows that the dialogues in this textbook are aligned to the standards,for example, the materials are flexible and also graded in proper sequence; and dialogueactivities are various; the dialogues also have extensive theme, representativeness.However, there are also some problems: language materials are to some extent lack ofauthenticity and interestingness, as well as the penetration of the culture is not enough.The study suggests that the language materials can be chosen from English speakingcountry’s mass media; and it’s essential to consider about the real usage of language inreal situation when we design the dialogues; the dialogues should cover all24topicsand arrange in proper proportion; and the culture should be introduced morecomprehensively.
